Build Better AI Prompts.

Seven structured sections in, one clean tagged prompt out - ready for any LLM.

01

Who should the AI be? A defined persona anchors expertise and perspective.

02

Background the AI can't guess: the situation, the audience, relevant facts.

03

The core instruction — what exactly should the AI produce? This is the only required field.

04

Rules and boundaries: what to avoid, limits to respect, non-negotiables.

05Examples

Show, don't tell — a sample input and ideal output teach the AI your expectations.

06

The shape of the response: structure, syntax, length.

07

The voice of the response and who it's calibrated for.

What is the AI Prompt Builder?

The Discoveai Prompt Builder is a free online prompt generator that turns rough ideas into structured, professional AI prompts. You fill in up to seven guided sections — role, context, task, constraints, examples, output format, and tone — and it composes a clean, tagged prompt you can paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other LLM. It runs entirely in your browser: no account, no API key, no data sent to a server.

How the prompt builder works

  1. Fill in the sections. Only the Task is required — every other section is optional and simply omitted from the output when empty. Each field explains what it adds to prompt quality.
  2. Generate your prompt. The builder assembles your input into a structured prompt in XML tags, Markdown headers, or plain labeled sections — switch formats with one click.
  3. Copy or open it anywhere. Copy the result, or open it directly in ChatGPT or Claude with the prompt pre-filled. You can also save prompts to a browser-local library and reuse them later.

Why structured (XML) prompts get better results

A structured prompt separates who the AI should be, what it should do, and what rules it must follow into clearly delimited sections. XML tags like <role>, <task> and <constraints> act as unambiguous boundaries, so the model doesn't mix your examples into your instructions or overlook a rule buried in prose. Anthropic recommends XML-tagged prompts for Claude, and the same structure transfers well to ChatGPT and Gemini. Looking for ready-made prompts instead? Frequently asked questions

Is the Prompt Builder free to use?
Yes. The Prompt Builder is completely free — no account, no signup, and no API key. Composing a prompt happens entirely in your browser and never calls an AI model, so there is nothing to pay for.
Do I need an API key?
No. Building and formatting prompts works without any key. An API key is only needed for the optional AI refinement feature, which rewrites your rough text using your own key from Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter — or a free local Ollama model with no key at all.
What is an XML prompt?
An XML prompt wraps each part of your instructions in descriptive tags such as <role>, <task>, and <constraints>. The tags give the AI clear boundaries between your persona, instructions, rules, and examples, which reduces misreadings and improves response quality — Anthropic recommends this structure for Claude.
Which output formats does it support?
Three formats: Anthropic-style XML tags, Markdown headers, and plain labeled sections. You can switch formats with one click and open the finished prompt directly in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your prompt text and saved prompts stay in your browser. If you use AI refinement, your key and text go directly from your browser to your chosen provider over HTTPS — nothing passes through or is stored on Discoveai servers, and your key is stored encrypted in your browser only.
Which AI models work with the refinement feature?
Refinement supports Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter (including its free models), and local models through Ollama. Gemini offers a free API tier and Ollama runs fully free on your own machine.
